This course is intended for all deck officers who may be required to use GMDSS while on board. Its aims are to ensure that the user is trained within the current legislative framework, is familiar with the system's capabilities and knows how to use it in an emergency. The course also provides a record of this training. The course is designed for individual self-study and is best used while on board ship.
The course consists of:
- 8 Modules

- Module 1 - Introduction to GMDSS
- Module 2 - Radio Theory
- Module 3 - Frequencies and Antennae
- Module 4 - Radio Communications

You can study the Modules in any order but, if this is your first introduction to the subject, we would recommend you move through them in numerical order.
The Modules contain video, stills, and graphics as well as text and audio.

The Glossary contains an explanation of specific words and phrases you may find helpful.
After completing each Module, there is a test that will enable you to check your knowledge. These interactive tests are taken online and the scores are recorded to our secure online database. There is also provision to print test certificates for your records. The test completion certificates should be printed and authenticated* by a supervisor before being submitted to Videotel.
